Whit Davies, returning to Tater Patch, is the director for The Savannah Disputation, a humorous theological play based in modern time in Savannah. Two old Catholic women are living out their golden years together, Mary is played by Thelma Cagle and Margaret is played by Pat Northcutt. The sisters are very different in many ways, the most obvious being temperament. They greet a young woman, Melissa, played by Tracey Gibson, who is a missionary with a goal to save the souls of all Catholics. Melissa is both serious and determined, but somewhat green. Father Murphy, played by Whit Davies, is invited to meet the young Melissa by Mary. Mary has rather uncharitable motives for this. Her goal is to teach Melissa a sharp lesson by using Father Murphy to ambush her. Father Murphy doesn’t exactly cooperate in this effort. Things get a little crazy from there.
A reviewer called it “drenched in southern charm, infused with a pinch of hellfire”. Another review said “Evan Smith’s divine comedy has become popular across the country. The show all but crackles with genuine wit and it’s quite serious in its intentions – to thoroughly dismantle the premises of both the Protestant and Catholic faiths, while actually charming the members of said churches in the process. Now you may not believe it, but Smith completely succeeds at this double hat-trick.” Come laugh with and at these ladies of old Savannah. It will be performed on April 25, 26, 27 and May 2, 3, 4. Sunday shows are at 2PM and the rest are at 7:30. Tickets are $15 for adults, $14 for seniors and students, and $12 for Season Ticket Holders. They can all be bought on line by clicking on the button at the top right side of this page, or at the box office beginning an hour before show time.
